4 Why Does the Ice Maker in the Refrigerator Not Work?

GE's Monogram label focuses on luxury features, industrial-grade design and eco-friendly energy usage. Among the lineup, a little over a half-dozen Monogram side-by-side refrigerators feature GE's water dispenser and icemaker with a built-in proximity sensor. High-end features aside, no appliance is flawless. If your Monogram's icemaker runs into trouble, there are troubleshooting procedures that apply to all of the label's 36-, 42- and 48-inch models, both built-in and freestanding.

Filters and Flow

User's manual for vizio model d39hn hdtv series. If your icemaker seems sluggish or if it produces small or hollow cubes, a dirty filter may be inhibiting the flow of water to the device. Locate the cylinder-shaped water filter cartridge in the rear, upper-right corner of the refrigerator compartment. Slowly unscrew the filter cartridge from the cartridge holder and screw in a new filter cartridge -- either a SmartWater or Water by Culligan filter, for Monogram models -- by turning it clockwise until it clicks into the cartridge holder. After installing the filter, run about 1 1/2 gallons of water from the dispenser to prevent future water flow complications. For optimal ice and water production, GE recommends replacing the filter cartridge every six months.

Water Worries and Temperature Troubles

If the icemaker doesn't produce ice at all, ensure the valve on the water supply line connected to your refrigerator is fully open. A Monogram icemaker works best when the water pressure ranges from 40 to 120 psi. If ice production is too slow for your taste, set the freezer compartment to a lower temperature to encourage quicker ice making. A leaky dispenser may indicate cubes jammed in the chute. The manufacturer recommends freeing the cubes by poking the chute with a wooden spoon.

More Troubleshooting Measures

Don't overlook the simple stuff; make sure the power switch on your fridge's icemaker is set to the “On” position before moving on with troubleshooting. If the icemaker stops producing ice before the storage bin is full, check the bin for anything obstructing the feeler arm, which is the flat, blade-shaped appendage on the bottom of the icemaker. Clear any obstructions, including frozen-on ice cubes, to ensure the icemaker accurately detects when the bin is full. Level the ice in the bin and break up any irregular clumps.

Getting in Touch With GE

Monogram refrigerators sometimes require professional maintenance; if basic troubleshooting doesn't do the trick, schedule a service appointment via GE's official Monogram site or contact the GE Answer Center. In addition to scheduling service, you can contact GE to order new filter cartridges. If you register your new Monogram appliance at GE's site upon purchase, the company covers the refrigerator under a limited warranty that extends up to 12 years.
